PASTOR
Pastor Herman L. Pickens was installed as the elected pastor of Pilgrim Branch Missionary Baptist Church in 2009. He was elected by 94% of the voting members present. Pastor Pickens was not new to the Pilgrim Branch family. He had served for 2 years as co-pastor of the church prior to being elected. He also served the church previously as a deacon and as a minister, from 1988 to 1997, under the leadership of former pastor, Rev. E. L. Thomas. He left Pilgrim Branch to become the founding pastor of GraceWay Baptist Church in 1997.
Rev. Pickens attended high school and college in Houston and is familiar with the neighborhoods and the people here. He attended both Texas Southern University and the University of Houston. He holds a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Houston and he holds an associate degree in Biblical Studies from The College of Biblical Studies, one of the nation’s premier non-denominational bible colleges.
Pastor Pickens is married to his lovely wife, Judy, and they have three children. “We believe in teaching the Bible and only the Bible” says Pastor Pickens. “There is no limit to what we can do or where we can go if we will trust God. We want to grow families and the families will grow the neighborhoods.”
